April Fool's Day

                         April Fool’s Day

April Fool’s day is on April 1st. The purpose of April Fool’s day is not fully confirmed. It dates back to the fifteen hundreds. There was a julian calendar, which had new year’s eve on April 1st. However Pope Gregory XIII demanded for there to be a new calendar. This new calendar made it so that New Year’s Eve would be celebrated on January 1st. However, there were people who were “traditionalists” and kept celebrating on April 1st. So people who followed the new calendar would take April 1st to pull pranks and other fun stuff on people who still celebrated new years on April 1st. Some theories say that a roman emperor, Constantine, was being entertained by a jester, to which they said they could rule better than the current king. Constantine was amused and made the jester king for a day. He then made it law so that one day a year would be spent with humor like pulling pranks and tricking people. Some pros about April Fool’s Day is that everyone spends this day having many laughs. Everyone pulls a neat little trick on someone they know, and laughter is heard everywhere. However, there are also many cons. Some people just don’t like to celebrate and think it’s stupid. Some people are also party poopers and will start nagging if they are bothered during April fools. Some other people can also think this holiday is just really stupid.

President's Day

                             President's Day

What is President's Day?
President's day is the day that George Washington was born.

Purpose:
What most people do on president's day is honor George Washington and all the other presidents from the past. Other people will also focus more on Abraham Lincoln. Some people will also organize events to show the young people more about the presidents from our past. (mostly George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

When is it?
Presidents day is on February 22nd.

Ways to show honor/respect?
There are many ways to show honor and respect on president's day. Most commercial ares don't close on president's day, so what they do to honor it, is they have sales and give to the people, just how presidents have always wanted to. What some people will often do is go and visit the white house in order to honor the past presidents. One of the most common ways to celebrate is to go to mass on president's day. It is also law for schools to begin teaching about presidents, specifically Washington and Lincoln, in order to get kids educated before their day off.

Thanksgiving

                      Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving is the day that we spend time with our families and eat with them, even though we should do this normally. Most people spend the whole week of thanksgiving together doing things like playing football, or bike riding, things like that. Thanksgiving was made an official holiday in 1789 when George Washington when he issued the first Thanksgiving proclamation. Several other places around the world, like Canada, also celebrate a holiday that is similar to that of the thanksgiving we celebrate. Over the years we have come up with essential traditions for Thanksgiving. For example eating a turkey and stuffing on Thanksgiving has become a staple. Although I believe that as long as you you keep what Thanksgiving is supposed to sentimentally, it doesn't matter what your tradition is. You just have to absolutely be with your family and loved ones, or else Thanksgiving just isn't what people end up making Thanksgiving to be.

I am thankful for:
  1. My family
  2. My friends
  3. My loving dog
  4. The little things my mom does
  5. Being able to own a family business
  6. Having two brothers
  7. My awesome cousins
  8. Being able to make it to high school
  9. For having a good first year of high school
